Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage – Gentle Giants' Refuge

Located near Kegalle, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, and orphaned elephants. Home to around 80 elephants, the orphanage allows visitors to observe elephants bathing in the river, feeding calves, and roaming freely in large herds.

Established in 1975, the facility has become one of Sri Lanka’s top tourist attractions, promoting conservation and education. Visitors can learn about elephant care while experiencing these gentle giants up close in a semi-wild setting.
