Famous for its large herds of Asian elephants, Udawalawe National Park is a flat, open park situated in the southern part of Sri Lanka. It was originally created to provide a safe haven for animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir.
The park is home to around 500 elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo, and a wide variety of birds. Its open landscapes make wildlife viewing much easier, especially for photographers and families on short safaris.
Don’t miss the Elephant Transit Home, where orphaned elephants are rehabilitated before release.
