Wilpattu National Park – Land of Lakes

Located in the northwest, Wilpattu National Park is Sri Lanka’s largest national park and a hidden gem for safari-goers. What sets Wilpattu apart are its “villus”—natural lakes that attract a wide range of animals including leopards, elephants, sloth bears, and deer.

The park’s dense jungle and fewer crowds make for a more serene, wilderness-focused experience. It’s also believed to be the mythical landing site of Prince Vijaya, the first recorded king of Sri Lanka.
